Sunday night we played a last minute show at Legion and it was quite eventful. First of all Michael C. Hall, TVs Dexter not Michael Anthony Hall, was in attendance. He apparently was doing air guitar and according to Maggie "Lovin' it." Who can blame him. I've always thought that being in this band is like playing a TV serial killer, we both slay. Wocka Wocka.
Besides that we played with a really awesome band called Brohammer. There is supposed to be an umlaut over the O but i can't figure out how to type that. They also slay like a TV serial killer. We will be playing with them at our next show which is Wednesday FEb. 16th at Death by Audio. Hope you Olympians can make it cause it will be sickeningly mantastic.

Lots of people send out Christmas cards. My favorite are the ones you get from friends and family that are full of arrogant boasts about all the great achievements they have all made in the past year. You get to hear all about how little Davie hit a homerun in Little League, but there is no mention about the fact that he still wets the bed. Etc.

And that's exactly what Rob Halford did with this little gift he mailed out to a few of his closest corporate radio DJ friends. Nevermind the fact that he can't sing like he used to, or that FIGHT is no PRIEST (although they share a couple members), Halford and crew rip through this original like a 5 year old through wrapping paper on Christmas morning.

Sorry Ronnie (RIP), there's no possible way to make "tidings of comfort and joy" sound evil. It's just not going to happen, but we do appreciate your efforts. The real question is: why did they even choose to do this song? The lyrics are basically anti-metal: "save us all from Satan's power"? What?! There has to be another reason to do this...

Oh yeah...the music is fucking epic! This song is all about the Iommi doom -- who cares that he blatantly lifted the riff from "Dazed and Confused"? Not me. This is the perfect soundtrack to doing donuts on a frozen lake, or burning Christmas trees in your front yard. Take this with a generous dram of scotch and call out from work the next morning.

Santa Claws

Nothing says Christmas like Dokken.
And nothing says Dokken like taking the song you wrote from Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and changing the lyrics to "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town".
I mean wow Dokken, you've really outdone yourself this time...no one noticed that one.
The cheap annimation does do wonders for this but I still have a couple questions...
What made Santa into this crazy manimal to begin with? And who is that creepy Dr. Elf? And wait a second...what happened to the rest of the song? Oh well.

No Presents for Christmas

It's like an advent calendar, except that someone has replaced all the chocolates with little chunks of pewter, wrought iron and STEEL. Next in our series of metal Christmas carols (by the way, Mount Olympus will be wandering around door to door in Staten Island singing these for the next month or so) is one of my personal favorites: No Presents for Christmas by King Diamond. In this most metal of yuletide tunes, Diamond explores the most brutal of all holiday scenarios: a Christmas without presents. For those who are unfamiliar, uninformed or just plain stupid, Kim "King" Diamond is the bastard child of an incestuous one night stand between Gene Simmons and Richard Simmons. Well known for his hilariously terrible impressions of Bruce Dickinson, "the King"'s distinctive vocal style has been called, "awful". Mr. Diamond now resides in Long Island with his wife and three children. He has been working as a used car dealer for the past 15 years. Enjoy.

As you can see by this advertisement the god of the underworld (kitten division) has unleashed a truly unholy announcement. Mount Olympus bring forth sweet musings from the devil himself. Conjurers of siren songs to make the ears swell in divine orgasm and drive even the hardest of temperments mad with bloodlust. The pyramids themselves, which hath stood for many a millenium, tremble at the very whisper of such an occurrence.

Mount Olympus plays at 1030pm.

Retribution will be sought in the way of dollars, more than 5 and less than ten, to witness such a soiling of all that is holy. However all that is holy, had it coming.

Newest news is that Mount Olympus is now boasting the skills of one Sharif Hassan on bass. Sharif hails triumphantly from Yakima, WA and is a member of the Yakima Nation. He is also a connoisseur of fine Scotch.

What is the Deal With Sweden?

I am listening to Witchcraft's "The Alchemist" right now and getting rocked oh so sweetly. I mean even my cat likes it. It's got all the elements that make good metal. It's slightly evil, mostly badass, has guitarmony, a good quiet/loud dynamic and a healthy obsession with Black Sabbath. A Swedish band i got to see that was along the same lines were called Graveyard. They had a little stronger old style R&B groove that made their songs kinda catchy. The singers voice had a Chris Cornell feel that reminded me of when sound garden was oh so teenage awesome. I really hope they come back the US and do a proper tour. Another band from Sweden that i got see was called Disfear. They are much heavier and faster than the previous two bands. It's a style of music known as D-Beat, which i can only assume is swedish for barking and guitaring loudly. What makes this band so good is their half crust half motorhead musical success equation that equals hell yeah every time. (Disfear, you can use that quote in your press kit). Check out the skinny happy swedes bouncing around to this heavy awesome noise and yes the is the singer from At the Gates.

Eagle Twin

I went to see Sunn0))) recently in brooklyn and i have to say i was really impressed by the first band, Eagle Twin. It was a 2 piece, which i am not big on, consisting of baritone guitar and drums. It is the new project by Gentry Densley a name you might recognize from the 90s hardcore band Iceburn. Well i was really suprised. This dude can still rip way hard. The songs were very complex and textured for a 2 piece. I was persuaded to buy the record, Unkindness of Crows, and it is even better that the live performance. The overdubs really make the songs stand out as epic compositions of doom and gloom. What i really like about the record is Densley doesn't just bash you over the head with volume and bassy drones, as a lot of doom acts try to do. He creates very creepy textures within well arranged songs. At points the songs break out into more major sounding progressions and the vocals are down right catchy. The lyrics are very apocolyptic and talk about nature in a very brutal and sparse way. "Carry on king of Carion" Densely sings in a song by the same name, is just one of the many references he makes to rotting flesh and the animals that sustain themselves off of the deaths of other animals. The theme would seem to be "humans don't get so cocky, your just carion to the crows." I would recomend this record very highly if you want a little more out of the stone drone style of music that bands like Sleep/Om, Sunn0)) and Earth have pioneered. Five thumb stars up.

Carter Logan who is better know in the underworld as Hades, Mike Guggino aka Dionysus, Dickie Spectacular aka Zeus aka Diggie Smalls and Joey Santa Maria aka Ares the God of Bass.
